90040 returns, Dec 2015
Delivered new in Railfreight distribution livery from Crewe Works to WN depot on
May 1st 1990. Accepted to BR stock a month later being allocated to Crewe Electric
depot where the loco has been based/stored ever since. After mileage accumulation
principally on passenger services the loco became an eth isolated freight sector 90140
in August 91.
The loco reverted to her 90040 identity in July 99 and was named "The Railway
Mission" in October 2001 which saw her briefly exhibited on the York NRM turntable.
Along with several other EWS classmates 90040 was stored at Crewe ED in late June
2006 until reinstatement in Dec 2015. A Toton repaint in DB red followed, then a test
run on December 23rd before being dragged South along with 90019 by 90029 on
Christmas Eve 2015. Hopefully a more active few years will follow for 90040
