The magic of an All Line rover, July 85

Thanks to "TC"

Thursday 18th July 1985.

I had been on the railway a matter of months. With a few days off I had a "priv" 7 day all line in my pocket. Two non ETH 47's out, but both dud, 86432 a winner!, a unit off 47354 from Rugby to Coventry to make 1S06....

Friday 19th July 1985

47571 took over the Stranraer at Carlisle, but was clearly not in the best of health. The train was very late by the time we got to Girvan with no chance of making the Stranraer - Glasgow. I remember getting woken up and bailing at Girvan. 47419 pushing the dead 27008/DMU consist was the only time I had 47419! I know we had some advance "gen", particularly with 25190 and 37272.

Other winners that day were: 20171, 27020, 27042, 25190, 37272, 47302, 47526

Unusual to have a friday night relief, the "peak" on the drag being a bit of a surprise. Spent all night stretched out in a compo.

Fairly certain it was the 00.15 unit off Birmingham to make 86216, on a move to kill time before joining the Manchester - Gatwick. Was this a week that the mega rare 33206 was quoted for the Gatwick? 33202 still a winner for me though.

A later start, expecting the 20's to be the same, which backfired. Got the "gen" that 45068 had worked 1M10 23.52 Sheffield - St. Pancras on monday night, mega rare for a 45/0 on that train by 1985, and that it was coming back out with the 00.05 on wednesday morning! did the last Sheffield - St. Pancrfas HST through to London for 45068 back home for a few hours and then back to work for 12.45.
