A Day trip to Kirkcaldy, Sep 1986

With little holiday left this was a desperate "day" trip to Fife to rake in the 26 hauled Kirkcaldys and have a final blast of the Edinburgh - Dundee circuit before the units took over.  I was hoping 260002 or 26015 may be out, 26015 had been a few days earlier and as they were both very much required. Hopefully a few roarers would be out too to add the bash.

                                                            5/9/86 Fr

81007  1B06 1714 Euston-Northampton

85008  1B07 1718 Euston-Bletchley

85024  1B08 1745 Euston-Northampton

85016  1B09 1815 Euston-Northampton

85022  1B10 1935 Euston-Northampton                   L.Buzzard-Northampton

The usual 2 other "Cobbler men" were waiting at Leighton advising that 81007, 85008, 85016  and 85024 had all "roared" on the evening Cobblers so it was no suprise when 1B10 roared too. This last evening Cobbler remained a fairly solid "roarer" turn throughout its existence.

048      2125 Northampton-Birmingham                     Northampton - Rugby

86402  1S06 2110 Euston-Stranraer

This was a serious bowl out at Rugby, 1S06 was, even in 1986 a very regular "roarer" producer but not tonight. Cue much disgust as the can whined into Rugby.

86232  1S07 2100 Euston-Fort William/Inverness

073}    2220 Northampton-Birmingham                     Rugby - New St

"S19" bounds to "roar" commented my always optimistic mate, as we enjoyed the screams and bucks of a class 310 power car travel to Brum to intercept 1S19.

85040  1S19 2125 Bristol-Glas/Edin                          New St - Carstairs

my mate was right, a decent 85 up front, we celebrated by dossing out!

47649  2125 Bristol-Glas/Edin                                   Carstairs - Waverly

37014  0703 Edinburgh-Keighley charter (steaming)

47586  1H05 0706 Edinburgh-Inverness

27049  2J23 0715 Edinburgh-Dundee                        Waverly - Dundee

a good start with 27049 steaming nicely all the way to Dundee passing 26046 and 26010 en route

26046  0631 Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh

26010  0656 Cardenren-Edinburgh

27049  2J08 0930 Dundee-Edinburgh                        Dundee -Waverly

26038  1L35 1123 Edinburgh-Perth                           Waverly - Haymarket

a pathetic 1.24 miiles out of 26038 today for me!

47209  2J15 1015 Edinburgh-Dundee

From memory 47209 was steaming too

26011  1135 Edinburgh-Kirckaldy                             Haymarket - Kirkcaldy

26010  1321 Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh                             Kirkcaldy - Waverly

26046  1335 Edinburgh-Kirkcaldy                             Waverly - Haymarket

47209  2J02 1230 Dundee-Edinburgh                        Haymarket - Waverly

47486  1V90 1415 Edinburgh-Cardiff                       Waverly - Carstairs

85035  1V90 1415 Edin/Glas-Cadiff                         Carstairs - New St

A big cheer at Carstairs when good old regular 85035 rounded the corner with the Glasgow portion.

85005  1A81 1540 Aberystwyth-Euston                    New St - M.Keynes

This train didnt roar that often, so a bonus move on the rarer 85005.

056      1921 Birmingham-Euston                               M.Keynes - L.Buzzard

So no 26002 or 26015, but small blasts on 26010/011/038 and 046. A superb last Circuit run for me on 27049 Edinburgh - Dundee and back the highlight of the Kirkcaldy "Day trip". The Edinburgh - Dundees were superb little trains and were soon to finish, a great loss to us all.

And some serious "roarer" mileage to and from Scotland, happy days!!!

No phots though i'm afraid, camera issues!!!
