319432 out all day ending up on 1E98 17.00 Sevenoaks - Bedford, which should in theory have been its last working. At some point it finds its way to Cauldwell to be paired up with 319426, which had been there since 21.08.17 (last working being 2O00 06.04 Sutton - Luton, then 5H17 08.00 Luton - Cauldwell ECS). 319426+319432 were the designated "spare" pair for the last weekend.

319426+319432 in theory were the designated "spare" sets, but managed to get a trip. 

 

 

So when 319217+319435 arrived back at Bedford, that was it, no more Thameslink 319's. 

 

All that remained was the job of moving them to Long Marston. This was done by 37884, over three days, the diagram being:

Short History of Thameslink 319's

 

BREL York built 4 car dual voltage units that entered service on December 1st 1987.

319004/005 worked a Victoria - Selhurst - Farringdon press demo service on this date

with 319005 also worked an 1845 St Pancras - Bedford press run on December 1st.

 

Deliveries continued with the formerly dominant class 317 units being cascaded to the WCML to

release the popular class 310 units froms some turns. Opening of Snow Hill tunnel on May 15th 1988

saw through services from Bedford to Brighton and from Luton to various Southern termini. Moorgate

also saw a regular service until closure of the Farringdon - Moorgate section on March 20th 2009.

The once 86 strong fleet saw transfers to Connex and then Northern from 2016 as the lovely class 700

replacements entered service.

And so as detailed in "TC's" gen list above the final class 319s on Thameslink ended on August 27th 2017

 

Class 319s since Sep 2015 have operated out of Euston but they have been regular WCML visitors for many years
